Five Tasks You Can Complete Now to Get Prepared for the Holidays

The holidays are upon us and times are about to get crazy! Although the holidays are such a joyful time of year, there is so much to do. Everything from setting up decorations, to holiday parties to hosting friends and family requires a little bit of planning ahead and organization. That’s why we’ve put together this list of easy tasks you can knock off your to-do list before you get overwhelmed. By getting organized ahead of time, you’ll be better able to enjoy the holiday cheer!

Tackle the deep cleaning

Before you do anything else to prepare for the holidays, start with deep cleaning your home. Not only will your home look fabulous afterward, but a good deep clean will also motivate you in other ways to get your home looking fabulous for the holidays. This means cleaning your carpets, refrigerator, dusting the blinds and ceiling fans, vacuuming under furniture, etc. Once all of this is done, all you’ll have to do before entertaining guests is a quick surface clean of the common areas!

Declutter

Fall is the ideal time to declutter your home because you’ll end up with more space for all the pretty gifts that will be arriving throughout the holidays! This will also help make space for all your fabulous holiday decorations! However, you don’t want to overdo it on the decorations. Be sure to review your holiday décor and remove any items that you don’t typically use or that don’t fit in as well with the others. Donate these items or consider hosting a holiday décor swap! Also make sure you take the time to declutter areas such as the pantry, freezer and refrigerator to make room for all of the yummy holiday food that’s soon to come! Also make sure you go through your camera’s memory card by deleting the not-so-great photos so that you can add and enjoy new memories!

Organize your holiday shopping

Do you tend to purchase holiday gifts throughout the year as you come across them? It can be tricky to remember what all you have purchased, how much you’ve spent, where you stored the gift and who it’s for. That’s why now is the perfect time to create a system for tracking your holiday gift purchases to help you get organized and stay ahead of the holiday hustle and bustle! Same goes for your coupons. Weed out expired coupons and have a system in place that allows for maximum productivity, so that you can easily take advantage of those great deals as the holidays get closer!

Take inventory of your gift-wrap supplies

If you’re like us, you love the excitement that comes along with gift-giving. We especially enjoy gift-wrapping as well. However, gift-wrapping can tend to get overwhelming when your supplies aren’t organized. Now is the perfect time to make sure that you have a sufficient supply of gift wrap, gift bags, ribbons, scotch tape and scissors. Likewise, if you don’t already have an efficient gift wrap station, now is the time to make one!

Create your holiday cards

If your family likes to send out holiday cards, begin the process early so that you don’t have to worry about it when December comes around! Get started by completing all of the sub-tasks associated with getting the cards in the mail, such as purchasing stamps, updating your card recipient address list, taking the family photo, choosing your card design, etc.
