5 DIY Fall Crafts to Celebrate the Fall Season

 

Autumn is just around the corner and what better way to get in the spirit than some easy do-it-yourself crafts! The following crafts are simple, cute and completely customizable to your needs. Crafts are a fantastic way to spend quality time with family and spruce up your home decorating while you’re at it!

1.     Rickrack Pumpkin Face

–       What you’ll need:

  •   A pumpkin
  •    Rickrack trim of your choice
  •   Hot glue gun
  •   Small buttons
  •  Green felt

–       How to:

  •    Lightly sketch your desired facial expression on the pumpkin. Then, attach the rickrack trim with a hot glue gun to cover the drawing. Next, attach two small buttons in the corner of each with hot glue. Finally, cut the felt and rickrack in the shape of leaves and stems and attach to the top of the pumpkin with hot glue.

2.     Sweater Pumpkin

–       What you’ll need:

  •    A pumpkin
  •    Yarn
  •    Hot glue gun

–       How to:

  •    Glue four strands of yarn together to the top of the pumpkin. Braid the strands together using two strands per plait. Glue the braid to the bottom of the pumpkin and repeat the process, spacing about one inch apart, until the pumpkin is covered.

3.     Ombre´ Fall Wreath

–       What you’ll need:

  •    Gloves
  •    4 medium plastic bins
  •    6 cups of water
  •    3 tbsp of vinegar
  •    1 cup Rit liquid fabric dye in desired colors
  •    Dried corn husk
  •    Newspaper
  •    Thin towels
  •    Iron
  •    Hot glue gun
  •    12’ foam wreath form
  •    Wire

–       How to:

  •    Set four medium plastic binds on a covered surface. While wearing gloves, mix six cups of warm water, three tablespoons of vinegar and one cup of fabric dye. Next, soak dried corn husk in the mixture for about 20 minutes and rinse with water. Let it dry on the newspaper. Then, place the husks between the two towels and iron flat. Glue a few layers of dyed corn husks around the wreath form to create a sunburst shape and attach a loop of wire to the back with glue to hang.

4.     Button Spiders

–       What you’ll need:

  •    Large and small black buttons
  •    Red string
  •    Black pipe cleaners
  •    Hot glue gun

–       How to:

  •    Thread the string through the holes of the large buttons in a crisscross pattern. Then, knot in the back to hold in place. Next, cut 1- to 2- inch lengths of pipe cleaner and glue to the back of the button with four on each side and shape into legs. Attach a smaller black button with hot glue to make the head and then attach the string to the back of the larger button with glue to hang the spider.

5.     Pinecone Wreath

–       What you’ll need;

  •    Pinecones
  •    16-inch wreath form
  •    Burlap ribbon
  •    Orange, yellow and beige acrylic paint
  •    Paint brush
  •    Matte Mod Podge
  •    Gold and copper glitter
  •    Floral wire

–       How to:

  •    Wrap the wreath form with the ribbon and loop a piece around the wreath form to hang. Paint the tip of about 40 pinecones, brush the tips of 10 pinecones with matte Mod Podge and sprinkle with glitter. Once dry, wrap an 18” length of wire around the base of each pinecone and twist tie around the wreath form to secure, layering and overlapping them as you go.
