At Fort Defiance Civil War park and Interpretive Center, you are provided the opportunity to learn about and reenact the Civil War. Originally inhabited by Native Americans, settlers eventually took over and turned the scene into a trading post. The fort was constructed by Confederate troops, who were later captured by Union forces in 1862.
The living history museum, Historic Collinsville, comes to life each summer and includes 18 restored log cabins and other structures from around the 1830s. The museum is filled with artifacts from that period, which allow you to learn the ways in which the settlers lived and worked on a daily basis. Here, you will experience the ways of life in rural Tennessee during the antebellum and Civil War eras, near the Cumberland River, which was once a vital transportation waterway.
